"We never escape this ominous thunder" (Harrison, p.37)

                                                     Dear Diary,
We are on rest again, but I feel that eventhough we are miles away fromthe line the war is wherever we go, even when we were marching to the trains that will get us to our rest. Miles away from the line I still hear the shells and feel afraid. I received my first pay, so the guys and me decided to have some fun, get drunk and look for tarts. I was forgetting the war. There was a moment that we talked about Brown, I miss him. The next day we took a swim in a stream. I was having a really good time and I felt so released when I took my uniform off, suddenly Cleary saw a dead body in the water, it was a French soldier, that totally spoiled our day. I was so upset because even miles away from the battle camp I still see and feel the war. At this point I feel I could never get out of it. I would always be chased by this nigthmare called war. I feel  I'm trapped in it that wherever I see. whenever I go I will always be fighting to escape from this omnious thunder.

Mexico vs France...

On June 17, 2010 we had the opportunity to see in the World Cup South Africa the match between Mexico and France.  Javier ‘El Chicharito’ Hernandez and Cuauhtemoc  Blanco were two factors that lead Mexico to the victory against France. The synchronization of the passes between Javier Hernandez and the captain of the Mexico’s team was one of key thing that allowed Hernandez to scored the first goal in that difficult match. Also the penalty shot by Blanco in the 79th minute, a penalty earned by Pablo Barrera, a very young guy that came on for Carlos Vela, who get injured in the first half, put Mexico in the leading of the match.
The performance of the Mexican players during the game was admirable; they always were looking for opportunities to score even though they were winning the game, they were always focused and what they had to do, they acted as a team and that, at the end of the game was reflected in the score, and also in the faces of all the followers of the Mexican team. In the other hand, France wasn’t playing at their highest level, they weren’t concentrated, and their passes were not accurate at all. We saw a France that we are not used to see, a France with no motivation, with no spirit and with no hopes. Someone said that the poor performance of France is due to the coaching of Raymond Domenech, who consults astrologist to pick his lineup, instead of seeing the performance of each player and according to that make the lineup. This victory gave Mexico the pass to the second round of the tournament meanwhile France destiny is not defined yet; maybe the sub champion of the World Cup four years ago is going to be eliminated.

Evolution of a trend...

Converse was established in 1908, in Massachusetts, by Marquis M. Converse. Converse started as a Rubber Shoe Company that offered winterized rubber soled footwear. Until 1912 it started producing athletic shoes for tennis. In 1917, Converse introduced the world's first performance basketball shoes, the “Converse All Star” and with them the basketball was revolutionized. A year later, when the basketball player Charles H. Taylor acquired his first pair of Converse All Star and started using them, he spread the basketball as a sport to all the Americans across the country. Another important person from Converse is Charles Chuck Taylor, who officially joined Converse as America’s first player endorser and because of that Charles’ signature was added in the All Star patch. Converse kept growing as the interest of basketball. The Converse Chuck Taylor All Star became the basketball shoes used for professionals and high school teams across the country, that’s why Converse became a synonym for basketball. Chuck not only transformed basketball by introducing the new basketball shoes, also he transformed it when he invented the modern basket ball, a stitch less leather ball.

Converse had been in very important historical events like in 1936, basketball Olympic debut, the U.S basketball team defeated Canada wearing Converse All Star shoes. Also when America entered the World Wide II Converse started to manufacture boots, rubber protective suits for pilots and troops. During the war all soldiers worn Chuck Taylor All Star shoes, and also after it, because nowadays these shoes are usual the athletic shoes for military training. Converse was also present in Hollywood due to all the celebrities that were photographed wearing them, was present among the teenagers that used them as a symbol of youth rebellion, Converse became an American icon in the 50’s and until the 80’s, that’s when Converse popularity started to fall. The new period of the footwear industry involved technology and improvement, things that the new competitors of Converse had and Converse not. Converse tried to keep up with that technology but it couldn’t and because of that and a series of bad decisions Converse file in bankruptcy in 2001. It was until 2003 that Converse accepted Nike’s offer to buy the company for $305 million dollars, since then Converse is owned by Nike. No matter what the sales statistics indicated, or who owns the company, Converse shoes are and will still being a big and important part of the American history.

"No me voy"

No me voy y no voy a decir adios mientras no me olvides.
No caben los recuerdos en toda la ciudad. Mil gracias por tu risa que alumbro la obscuridad
Y si volviera el tiempo te diria desde hoy, que no cambiaria este viento a ninguna dirección.

This is a Spanish song lyrics called “No me voy”, which in English means “I won’t leave”. This song means a lot to me because it remembers me when I was going to move from Mexico City to Toluca. My friends used to sing it to me, because the main message of the song is that no matter where you are, you will always be in my heart, and that means a lot to me, because they were proving me that our friendship will last forever no matter the distance that keep us apart. This song remind me all the good times I had with them in junior high school and I choose it because of that, and it teach that some things happened for a reason and those are challenges that we have to face in order to find out who are your really friends and the ones who real loves you.

Check in please!!!

Few weeks ago, my friends, Paulina, Claudia, and I went to Toronto, we wanted to visit the city, go shopping, etc, and we taught one day wouldn't be enough for those whole activities, so we taught about staying in a hotel for the whole weekend. When we arrived at Toronto with our luggage, we decided that the first thing we should do was to go and find a hotel to stay in. First we walked to a hotel near Toronto downtown that days before we found on the Internet, it seems to be very nice. When we finally got there it was horrible!, it didn't seem as a hotel, it was in very bad conditions, so we decided to keep looking for a hotel to stay in, The next 5 hotel we check were too expensive or they had no rooms left, so we keep walking and walking, carrying our heavy luggage, hungry, asking people about any hotel we could stay in. We found the address of a hotel that was a little far away from downtown, so we decided to go, our last chance. We end in a lonely and horrible neighborhood, we started looking for the hotel, when we finally got to the “hotel” we realized that it wasn’t a hotel! It was a like a hostel! Claudia and I were afraid to go in and ask if there was a room available, so Paulina went in and asked. She went out almost running for her life! She told us it was horrible! It looks like the setting of a scary movie, with the squeaky door, the creepy pictures on the walls and so on. She told us that she was walking, looking for someone that could give her information when she saw the living room, the T.V. was on, but when she goes in the T.V. turn off but there wasn’t anyone, when she gave a step into the living room a very white woman suddenly appeared, Pau screamed as if she had seen a ghost, the woman told her that there wasn’t any room available, so Pau said like thank god! and ran away. We ran out of options, so we decided to return to Hamilton. We spend all that day in Toronto walking like 5 hours!, and the worst thing was that we couldn’t do any of the thing we were wanted to. What an awful day!! : (
